Thanks to a whole host of supporters, we were able to bring a family 2.5k Santa Dash and a 5k Dash to the residents of Sale for the first time. It truly was a wonderful day, one which saw 350 runners and over 50 volunteers descend onto Sale Water Park to raise money for charity at Christmas time. We had so many sponsors and raised £992.13, which was later increased to a round £1,000 thanks to a generous member of the public. Our sponsors MUST be noted for their kind generosity: RME Financial, Sale Podiaty, Claire S Physio, Sports Direct, Taylors of Sale, Derek Stuart-Cole (photographer), plus our sponosors who preferred to remain anonymous. Thanks also to Trafford Council who gave us permission to use the Park for the morning, and to the Mayor of Trafford who started our first race for us! Below are just a small selection of photographs!
Our first #MileShyHeroes awards evening!
Our Christmas Do was a sell out, and there was no better time to recognise the efforts of our runners and volunteers. Our winners were decided by other runners at the club who took part in our awards and feedback survey last month. We are delighted to announce the winners of the following awards:
Volunteer of the Year - Bronagh Dowdall
Coach of the Year - Bram Appleton
Most inspiring runner of the year (3rd place) (joint winners) - Jill Hudson and Bronagh Dowdall
Most inspiring runner of the year (2nd place) - Sam Ahmad
Most inspiring runner of the year (1st place) - Mark Jolly
Magic Mile
We were delighted this month to see Coach Ben from our Nottingham group appear in Runner’s World. It is so wonderful to see the success of the club inspire others to (literally) follow in our footsteps.
Dash to help charity!
The #MileShyClub heard this week that we had featured in the Sale Messenger! Check out the image below to see our article about our upcoming Santa Dash for charity Stockdales!
Big up to the MileShyClub...MM chat to Manchester's coach of the year on trading cigarettes for conditioning
2 December 2018
Jane Dennison unpacks her bag out onto a table in the Sale Waterside Plaza.
Out come the cones for the evening’s warm-up, each with ‘MileShyClub’ boldly written on in thick felt-tip. She’s there early, as she is every week, to set up for her cohort of runners that will be filtering in at any moment.
Unlike other coaches, Jane doesn’t have a catalogue of sporting achievements and medals to her nam. That’s not to say she has not led an interesting life. Far from it.
Jane has a law degree, an english degree, a published novel and nominations for PA of the year. However, it is running where she has found her calling…

Wilmslow 10k - we came, we saw, we conquered!
Insane! Our runners at the Wilmslow 10k did amazing this morning! A whole raft of personal bests! For most, trying to get a sub-60 minute 10k is hard work, and this was a goal for a lot of our runners this morning. Imagine our delight to hear that many of our runners achieved under 55 minutes! It just shows that commitment, effort and great training does produce fantastic results. Awesome job.

Visit from Mancunian Matters online magazine!
We had a journalist from Mancunian Matters visit us this Tuesday to speak with us all about Jane’s recent award win as Manchester Coach of the Year! They did a little feature about us! Here is the video for you to enjoy.
Oh no we didn't... oh Mo we did!
A group of hardy runners, spotted as extras from Magnum PI, took to Heaton Park today to take part in the 10k MoRun! Well done to everyone who took part!
Club owner Jane wins prestigious Greater Manchester Coach of the Year Award
There were 10 shortlisted candidates for this award, who were named at the Manchester Sports Awards which took place at The Point at Old Trafford Cricket Ground. Jane was interviewed earlier this week ahead of the awards by BBC Radio Manchester to talk about the club as part of the awards process.
Jane says: “I am in absolute shock to have won. The other shortlisted nominees sounded fantastic and I didn’t think I stood a chance. I am truly grateful to be recognised in this way!”
As well as winning Coach of the Year, the #MileShyClub were again shortlisted in the Club of the Year category. The club has picked up three awards this year, the other two from the Trafford Sports Awards, but for us, this only compounds the success we feel every time one of our runners completes their first 5k. We love our club, and our members, and are thankful that these awards are reflecting our commitment to bringing the sport of running to everyone.
Running Into Cancer
This evening we hosted Tony Collier, an amazing man with an amazing running history and an amazing story. We heard how Tony had been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer and the work he is doing to raise awareness. A thoroughly moving talk, we would encourage everyone who has the opportunity to attend one of Tony’s speaking events.
