KERRY GARSIDE

How did you get into running?

I wanted to do something with my son that would improve our fitness but didn’t want to join a gym. I saw an advert for Mileshyclub and thought if we could get into running we would be able to go anytime and anywhere.

I was an absolute beginner when I first started C25K and was so unfit I could not even complete Week One. I didn’t let that deter me though. I kept going and put in the work. I made sure I did my homework runs and even though I was slow I never gave up. Running has completely changed my life in so many ways for the better.

What is your favourite event and why?

I have been involved in a few different races and events but my favourite event and proudest achievement was the Wilmslow Summer 10K that I completed in July last year. As I’d only started running six months previously I didn’t think it was something that I would ever be able to achieve. On the day it seemed so much harder as it was a tough course and such a hot day, but about 200 metres from the finish line there were a bunch of MileShyClub coaches and runners that had waited near the finish line to run me in. It was the best feeling ever and I absolutely cried ugly happy tears when I saw them. What a support network and absolutely amazing group of people! I couldn’t thank them enough for believing in me. That was one of the happiest days of my life it was such a massive achievement.

What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I have no spare time I just run ! Seriously, I love the theatre, reading, exploring new places and eating copious amounts of cake! I love spending time with my wonderful son and husband and with our two dogs and six cats. Our house is like a zoo but I wouldn’t change it for anything!
