How did you first get involved in MileShyClub?

I joined MileShy club in 2017 just as I was completing couch to 5k, to boost my confidence and meet new people to run with. I remember how tough I found that first run along the canal, but I was hooked. I was encouraged to join in parkrun the following Saturday, and I have never looked back.

What does being a trustee with the MileShyClub mean to you?

I am proud to be a trustee of the MileShy club, and I enjoy exploring new opportunities to continue to motivate existing members, and ideas on how to welcome and encourage people to running. The role allows me to share my passion for running for physical and mental wellbeing.

Why do you like being involved with the MileShyClub?

The MileShy club means more to me than running; it is a community and support network. The support from fellow runners has encouraged me to go from parkrun to marathon, and I love to be able to show others that anything is possible if you just believe that your legs will carry you there.

What do you do outside of the MileShyClub?

I am a researcher and academic and, despite living in landlocked Manchester, study coastal flooding hazards in the UK and worldwide. I love being outdoors, and weekends will always include parkrun, walks, and coffee & cake.

How did you start running?

My parents started Couch to 5k in 2017, and they loved it and I thought ‘if they can do it, so can I.’ I remember run 1 week 1, and the fact I couldn’t walk down the stairs the next day. That run changed my life and I’m so glad I took those first steps along the canal in a pair of old trainers.

What is your greatest achievement or proudest moment with the MileShyClub?

I am proud to be a member of this community every time I run with the club. My proudest moment would be completing my first half marathon in Manchester surrounded by MileShy friends; that was a high like no other and seeing everyone else finish made me immensely proud. I also still can’t quite believe I can say I finished the Manchester Marathon in 2021, and may even do another one…
