How did you first get involved in MileShyClub?

I joined MileShyClub nearly 5 years ago as a non-runner and considered myself exercise averse but something appealed to me about learning to run. In the past I had left the front door to start a run and ran for as long as I could. Hated it and gave up. It never dawned on me that you had to build up, gain stamina and actually learn to run! MileShyClub showed me that this was actually possible.

What does being a trustee with the MileShyClub mean to you?

I feel very passionate about the club and being a trustee is a real privilege. To be able to help shape the future of the club so that it is sustainable and can reach and support more people on their running journey is really important to me.

Why do you like being involved with the MileShyClub?

Being part of MileShyClub is more than being a member of a running club. It means so much more; yes I learn to run, I am proud to be a coach and get so much pleasure from seeing new runners progress through the C25k programme but more than that I have made so many great friends. MileShyClub is an amazing support & social group too.

What do you do outside of the MileShyClub?

I am a mother and a wife who I fit in around my running or so they sometimes feel. I work for a Law firm with a background in Logistics, Process & People Management. I love being outdoors. I love cake too.

How did you start running?

At 45 years of age I finally found a form of exercise I actually liked and could stick at. I think the beauty of running is that you don't need to be tied down to a time or a place. You can just open the door and run. MileShyClub has given me the confidence to do this. I started on the C25k programme and now regularly run 5k and 10k races.

What is your greatest achievement or proudest moment with the MileShyClub?

Running my first half Marathon in Manchester is my greatest achievement and sharing this experience with so many others in the club. Proudest moment was at Sale Water Park Parkrun at the 5k graduation of the first C25k GP sessions and seeing everyone achieve their 5k goal.
